SSE plc - Energy provider

The client:

SSE plc (formerly Scottish and Southern Energy plc), is a multinational energy company headquartered in Perth, Scotland. SSE's Enterprise business provides the essential cutting-edge energy infrastructure and related services needed for a low-carbon future

The project: Legionella Risk Assessment at four seperate depots

Promptus Ltd were engaged by SSE to carry out a Legionella risk assessment, HVAC commissioning and water treatment at an SSE Depot in Thurso, Wick, Portree and Brodick in Scotland.

Continuous communication and significant planning between our head office in Northampton, our engineers, the mechanical engineer at SSE, as well as, the site team were pivotal in the successful completion of the risk assessment, remote auto flushing units, temperature monitoring.

Having completed our services, we received positive feedback from the SSE team, regarding the planning and effort that went into the project, as well as the service that our engineers provided on site.

The scope of works:

Work to commence on the legionella hardware valve controllers, temperature monitoring probes and all associated transmitters.

  1. Test & certifying with online cloud-based monitoring platform.

  2. Hand over to SSE as operational and commissioned.

What we implemented: Legionella Management System

•    Install all relevant valve controllers and probes.
•    Test and certify
•    Install Remotech™ GSM data cards and test back to units.
•    Connect to Vigilate™ cloud and run self-test diagnostics.
•    Full install certs.

Our solution/approach:

Our scope of works included an injection disinfection of new installation hot and cold-water flushing devices, completed to Wras approved specification. Our engineers then took calibration, which was tested at a UKAS accredited laboratory.

The Legionella risk assessment was carried out as per all current HSE regulations and was completed to determine the risk of Legionella bacteria growing in the water systems within the depots. The risk assessment document includes site survey data and asset register, observations with photographic evidence, recommendations to reduce the risk, a schematic drawing of the water system and a Legionella monitoring regime.

The results:

As the company that reduced risk of legionella disease by flushing and monitoring temperatures we reduced site visits up to 5 years, saving time and reducing carbon footprint, water wastage more efficiently. We employ a team of highly qualified engineers that will complete project to the needs set out by you, the client.
